For Evan Gershkovich, the dozen appearances in Moscow's courts over the past year have fallen into a pattern. Guards take the American journalist from the notorious Lefortovo Prison in a van for the short drive to the courthouse. The periodic court hearings give Gershkovich’s family, friends and U.S. officials a glimpse of him, and for the 32-year-old journalist, it’s a break from his otherwise largely monotonous prison routine. Friends and family say Gershkovich is relying on his sense of humor to get through the days. Every day, Milman said, “I wake up and look at the clock.”“I think about if his lunchtime has passed, and his bedtime," she said.

Earthquakes vs. aftershocksThe modern seismic activity the researchers studied is likely a mixture of aftershocks from the big quakes from the 1800s and background seismicity, Chen said. “Are small earthquakes in the New Madrid seismic zone aftershocks of 1811-1812 or not?” Hough said in an email. “The new study considers the question from a different angle, considering how tightly clustered earthquakes are, and concluding that some of the events are ongoing aftershocks,” Hough said. Aftershocks might still be continuing, but once the normal seismic rate for the area returns, she said, you can no longer identify them as aftershocks. “For this reason, we seismologists sometimes disagree about which earthquakes are foreshocks or aftershocks,” Ebel said, “and I think those disagreements are inherently unresolvable.”

Calgary, Alberta-based Enbridge moves about 30% of the crude oil produced in North America, and nearly 20% of the natural gas consumed in the United States. Mainline system transports light and heavy crude oil, natural gas liquids, and refined products from Edmonton, Alberta to various markets in Canada and the U.S. Midwest. In September, the company announced a $14 billion bid for Dominion Energy's (D.N) three utility assets, to create North America's largest gas utility platform. The deal is seen as a bet on the future of natural gas in a regulated market even as energy companies and consumers are transitioning to a greener future by phasing out fossil fuels. But some analysts were surprised at the timing, the scale and impact such a deal would have on the company's already leveraged balance sheet. Enbridge struck the deal just over a month after CEO Greg Ebel told analysts the company saw 'tuck-in' acquisition opportunities 'across the board'. By late morning, Enbridge shares were down 5.5% at C$45.50, while the benchmark Canadian share index was off 0.5%. Enbridge is selling new shares at a discount of 7.2% to its Tuesday close to part-fund the transaction.

Analysts, however, were surprised at the timing, the scale and impact such a deal would have on the company's already leveraged balance sheet. "I don't see how you can keep piling more issuance - debt and equity - on this company at these rates. Enbridge shares provisionally closed down 5.9% at C$45.31, while the benchmark Canadian share index was off 0.9%. "While Enbridge paid a reasonable price, high leverage and funding gap could act as overhang," Wells Fargo analysts said in a note.

CNN —Canadian pipeline operator Enbridge Inc. announced Tuesday that it plans to acquire three gas distribution companies from Dominion Energy. The deal is valued at $14 billion, including $9.4 billion in cash and $4.6 billion in debt, and will create North America’s largest natural gas utility platform, according to Enbridge. Enbridge will buy three of Dominion’s gas utilities: The East Ohio Gas Company, Public Service Company of North Carolina, Incorporated, and Questar Gas Company, which serve about 3 million homes and businesses. “Adding natural gas utilities of this scale and quality, at a historically attractive multiple, is a once in a generation opportunity,” Enbridge CEO Greg Ebel said in a statement. “These businesses and employees have been an integral part of the Dominion Energy team, which is why we approached this decision with careful and deliberate consideration,” Dominion Energy CEO Robert Blue said in a statement about the company’s agreement with Enbridge.

U.S.-listed shares of Enbridge fell 6.5% to $33.01 in extended trading after the company also announced a C$4 billion ($2.9 billion) bought-share sale to fund a portion of the deal. The modest improvement in Enbridge's business risk profile is not enough to "offset ongoing pressure on the company's financial profile," said Gavin MacFarlane, vice president and senior credit officer at Moody's, in a statement.

Factors such as cheaper airfares and weaker currencies in Scandinavia could play a role, but one of the world's biggest tour operators TUI (TUI1n.DE) said on Wednesday that climate change will also drive more tourists northbound. Tour operators in places like northern Norway also see an increased demand. This had resulted in more direct flight routes to Northern Norway being created, it said. Heather Storgaard, a Scottish tourist, planned her summer vacation this year in Denmark, with a stop in Northern Germany. Wissenbach is often in Italy due to work but said she preferred the north for holidays.

That was despite prices rising 7% over last year, indicating that the higher cost of travel wasn't dampening demand. In particular, the wildfires in Rhodes, Greece meant approximately 8,000 TUI customers had to leave their hotels, TUI said. The cost of that will be reflected in the full-year results and is expected to be close to 25 million euros. Ebel said that the Mediterranean region in Europe remained one of the top destinations for the tour group despite extreme weather. "The heatwave in Northern Europe in June and the wildfires in Southern Europe have only dampened temporarily the previously strong development," he said.

OTTAWA, June 15 (Reuters) - Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that it had summoned a Canadian diplomat in Moscow in protest over the confiscation of an Antonov plane in Toronto, and warned that Russian-Canadian relations were on the "verge of being severed." Canada on Saturday ordered the seizure of a Russian-registered Antonov-124 cargo plane at Toronto's airport, its first such asset seizure aimed at putting pressure on Moscow over the Ukraine invasion. Russia told Brian Ebel, the deputy head of Canada's embassy in Moscow, that it viewed the plane seizure as "cynical theft," according to a statement from the foreign ministry. A spokesperson for the Canadian foreign ministry acknowledged Moscow's concerns, and reiterated Ottawa's "unwavering" support for Ukrainians. Those who have enabled, supported and profited from Russia's war in Ukraine will be held accountable," the spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

The Calgary, Alberta-based pipeline operator said it would buy a gas storage facility in Tres Palacios in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico coast region for $335 million to strengthen its liquefied natural gas (LNG) export business. The Tres Palacios gas storage facility currently has a capacity of about 35 billion cubic feet and serves gas-fired power generation in Texas and Mexico. The pipeline operator has also decided to proceed with the construction of the Enbridge Houston Oil Terminal for an initial capital cost of $240 million. The company expects its renewable portfolio to grow over 400% by 2028. The company had earlier said it expects to deploy about C$6 billion of capital in 2023, inclusive of maintenance capital.

LONDON, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Holiday group TUI (TUIGn.DE), said on Tuesday it was seeing a positive travel recovery trend for the upcoming summer season as holidaymakers make plans to enjoy their breaks following a pandemic hiatus. Upcoming bookings for the 2023 winter and summer seasons hit 8.7 million. Low-cost airlines such as Ryanair, Wizz Air and easyJet all reported strong summer bookings earlier this year. Revenue improved by 1.4 billion euros to 3.8 billion euros year-on-year, with a growth of around a million guests to 3.3 million from the previous quarter. Separately, TUI shareholders are expected later on Tuesday to vote on a capital increase plan to repay Germany's Economic Stablisation Fund.
